The history of the Benson Fire Department is one of the most unique and inspiring in Arizona fire service history. Although the City of Benson was founded in 1880, the Benson Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1907 five years before Arizona became a State. An all-volunteer department for nearly a Century, the Firefighters responded with a two wheel hose cart and a horse drawn wagon during the early days of the department. Today, we are a combination department with a full time Chief and 20 Firefighters along with state of the art firefighting apparatus. The Benson Fire Department is a full spectrum lifesaving service. The department responds to calls for Structure Fires, Brush Fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Hazardous Materials incidents and Emergency Medical Service Calls along with many other calls for service.
